Charade

Artist: Andy Williams

Album: 16 Most Requested Songs: Andy Williams

Song Length: 2:34

George's Thoughts: This wonderful Henry Mancini song from the 1963 film of the same name has been reproduced by a large number of artists, into everything from Slow Waltz to Quickstep. The Andy Williams version (a Billboard chart hit in 1964) is great for Waltz but too fast for competition. If you want a regulation speed version, the Waltz version from Dancelife is delightful. Also found on "The Ultimate Ballroom Album 4" with a tempo of 29bpm.

Song Lyrics:

When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out names
Guessing the parts we played

Oh what a hit we made
We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
Love left the masquerade

Fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on

Sad little serenade
Song of my heart's composing
I hear it still, I always will
Best on the bill
Charade
